Frequently asked questions

Telephone and Virtual Counselling

I offer online, telephone, and in person counselling.

Number of Sessions and Length of Therapy

The number of sessions varies for every child, person, parent, and family. We all have different needs and come to counselling with diverse issues. Some families see results after intake, while others may take over 20 sessions, especially if trauma was experienced in early childhood. On average, clients tend to come to around 10 sessions; however, a lot of valuable work can occur in under 5 sessions. There is no rulebook in the land of emotions and healing: It takes the time that it takes.

It is also not uncommon for clients to come for one specific issue and then continue with therapy to resolve other problems as things evolve. Life can bring new opportunities for growth at any corner.

If finances are a concern, we can discuss focussing on a particular goal for a set number of sessions to maximize our time together.

Typically clients come to sessions once a week, though some people come every two weeks. As therapy progresses these sessions can move to once a month. And sometimes clients stop therapy for a while and continue at a later date. It is about whatever works for you in your life at that moment. Therapy can last a week or take over a year plus. On average, if you are attending regular weekly counselling, therapy is potentially in the 3-6 month range, but again, everyone is different.

Cancellation Policy

24 hours notice is required for cancellations. Clients missing or cancelling sessions less than 24 hours before the scheduled time are responsible for paying the full session amount. Appointments can be cancelled through the Jane app or via text to 250-570-1973. I understand life happens and emergencies come up so please let me know what’s happening for you: depending in the situation, the session may not be charged. This policy is in place to respect my energy and time.

Payment

Upon booking appointments in Jane, a credit card is authorized. Only at the time of your appointment is the session charged. I do take payment by cash or e-transfer: Please contact me to discuss alternate forms of payment as Jane will not let you book an appointment without credit card authorization.

Coverage

Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC) are covered by some, though not all, extended health plans. Contact your insurance provider or benefits plan to determine whether your plan covers counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. These plans typically have limited coverage, in my experience, ranging from $500-$1000 a year. Typically, you pay for the session, I email you a formal receipt, you submit this to your insurance provider and then they reimburse you (usually within a week if you submit the receipt online). Some plans cover 80% of the session fee and others cover 100%.
